Gamma Flood
The Leeds Gamma Flood phantom is designed with a unique feature in its placement of filling and venting plugs. Unlike many other manufacturers that position these plugs on the edges, the Leeds Gamma Flood phantom has them on the flat surface. This design choice is made to address the issue of bulging caused by water pressure when filling from the edge.
When filled from the edge, the phantom tends to stand on the opposite edge, leading to water pressure on the flat faces and causing bulging. This bulging doesn't easily rectify itself when the phantom is placed flat. The difference in thickness resulting from bulging can create an appearance of non-uniformity in the distribution of radioactivity. By siting the plugs on the flat surface, the design aims to minimize this issue, ensuring a more uniform distribution of the test solution and preventing potential misinterpretation of results.
